பயணம்

மானுட வாழ்வில் தவிர்க்க முடியாத ஒன்று, பயணம். ஏதோ ஒன்றை நோக்கி, ஏதோ ஒன்றைத் தேடி நாம் பயணித்து கொண்டேயிருக்கின்றோம். அவ்வாறான பயணத்தில் நாம் சந்திக்கும், நாம் பழகும் மனிதர்கள் நம்முள் ஓர் அதிர்வை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றனர் என்றால் அது மிகையில்லை.

“I had lost my wallet. Dont give me more money. Just the ticket fare to my place.97 Rupees” என்று கல்லூரி முதல் ஆண்டில், பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் என்னிடம் கேட்டவரிடம் கொடுத்தேன், 150 ரூபாய். “Use the 100 for the ticket, and eat something with the 50 rupees”. அவன் குடிக்க மட்டுமன்றி,சைடு டிஷ்க்கும் சேர்த்து கொடுத்தேன் என்று என் அண்ணன்களிடம் சொன்னபோது தான் புரிந்தது.

திருப்பதி செல்ல பேருந்தின் முன் சீட்டில் அப்பாவோடு அமர்ந்து ஏதோ சொல்லி சிரித்து கொண்டிருந்த போது தான், அந்த குடும்பமும் பேருந்தில் ஏறியது. பயணத்தில் ஒருவரையொருவர் அறிந்து கொண்டு, நட்போது பழகி வீடு திரும்புகையில், அந்த பெண்மணி சொன்னது இன்னும் நினைவில் இருக்கிறது, “பேருந்து ஏறியவுடன் உங்க பையனோட சிரித்த முகம். நல்ல சகுனம்.” அன்றிலிருந்து புன்ன்கையோது தான் பயணிக்கின்றேன், ஆனால் முன் சீட்டில் அல்ல.

மழையோடு பயணிப்பது எப்போதும் ஓர் சுகானுபவம். அவ்வாறான ஓர் நேரத்தில் புயலினால் மரங்கள் விழுந்து, நெய்வேலியில் இருந்து 30 km முன்பே பேருந்து நின்று விட்டது. பேருந்து இனி செல்லாது என்றான் தலைவாசல் விஜய் போல் இருந்த அந்த நடத்துனர். இளையராஜா கேட்டதில் மொபைலில் சார்ஜும் இல்லை. “கவலைப்பட வேண்டாம்” என ஒரு sms வீட்டுக்கு அனுப்பி விட்டு, நானும் இன்னும் நான்கு பேரும் நடக்க தொடங்கினோம். “ஏனப்பா.. புயல் வருதுனு டிவி ல சொன்னாங்களே..ஏன் பஸ்ல வரீங்க?” என கேட்ட மனிதர்களை தாண்டி “சாப்பிட, குடிக்க எதாவது வேண்டுமா?” என கேட்ட மனிதர்கள் தான் அதிகம்.

“வாழ்வின் பல முக்கிய முடிவுகள் பேருந்தின் ஜன்னல் ஓரத்தில் எடுக்கபடுகின்றன” என்று எப்போதோ எங்கேயோ படித்த ட்விட்டர். நம்மை கடந்து செல்லும் மரங்களும், முகத்தில் வீசும் காற்றும் வாழ்வில் நடந்த அத்தனை நிகழ்வையும் மறு பரிசீலனை செய்ய வைக்கும் என்றால் அது உண்மைதான்.

அப்பாவுக்கு accident ஏற்பட்டு, அவருடன், ஆம்புலன்சில் பயணித்த போது தான், அவர் இல்லாத வாழ்வு கண் முன் தோன்றி பயமுறுத்தியது. அன்று, விபத்துக்கு முன் “அப்பா.. வேலைக்கு போகாதீங்க. வீட்ல இருங்க” என்பதையும் மீறி அவர் வேலைக்கு சென்றார். ஆம்புலன்சில் அப்பா என் கை பிடித்து, “sorry da” என சொன்ன போது நெஞ்சு இன்னும் வலித்தது.

சென்னையின் நீண்ட சாலைகளில், அடர்ந்த traffic நிரம்பிய சாலைகளில் வழி விட்ட மனிதர்களும், பாதை ஏற்படுத்தி கொடுத்த அத்தனை டிராபிக் போலிசும் அன்று எனக்கு தெய்வங்களாக தெரிந்தனர்.

பெங்களூரில் வேலைக்கு சேர்ந்த புதிதில், அம்மாவுக்கு உடம்பு சரி இல்லை என கேள்வி பட்டு கண்ணீர் சிந்திய போது, அருகில் இருந்த பெண்மணி கன்னடத்தில், “Alabeda Maga” சொன்ன போது அழுத்தமாக புரிந்தது அந்த உண்மை: “மனிதனோடு மனிதமும் எப்போதும் பயணித்து கொண்டே இருக்கிறது”

The One

The Receptionist’s voice reverberated across the floor – “All Staff and Office personnel are requested to assemble in the auditorium. Our CEO has requested an urgent all hands meet…. All Staff and Office personnel…..”

It was my first day at Latitude Corporation. My job description is simple – I’m usually hired when situations are messy and I bring things back to order.

I stepped out of my room in response to the announcement. I could see scores of people walking towards the meeting. Urgent meetings requested by the CEO of a company are not common and understandably imaginations must be running wild. I could sense the fright and panic crossing through most minds. I smiled within myself.

I entered the auditorium to find that the CEO was waiting for us already on an elevated platform. There was an unsettled look in his face which he tried to etch away with a smile. Everyone looked animated and a feeble murmur resonated in the hall. I smiled within myself.

The CEO motioned to me to join him on the stage. I quickly waded through the crowd and did so. As soon as I stepped on the platform a hush fell on the crowd. I smiled within myself.

“Beloved friends! With immense pleasure, let me introduce Mr Edward Norton to you all. Mr Norton has been hired as our chief security adviser to address the security hassles we have been having lately. I expect you to extend your fullest cooperation and warmest welcome to him. Without further ado, I present him to you”, the CEO exclaimed.

I stepped forward and quickly scanned the crowd. The employees stood in different partitions and segments. I made a mental note of the gangs which irked me. Couple of them looked very rebellious to me. I smiled within myself.

“Everyone, you can call me Mr Norton. I don’t believe in exchanging pleasantries, so let me get straight to the point. In the notes which are circulated now, you will see a new set of rules and regulations which will come into effect immediately. I expect you to adhere to these rules in every strict sense. My tolerance levels are at bare minimum and please don’t brush it.”

I could sense the discomfort in the room, but didn’t care. I know that I would slow down the entire system and put immense stress on them all with my rules, but again my job dictates me to do it.

I started scanning all faces as they read the new rules which are coming into order. I paused an extra moment when scanning the backmarkers. Something irked me again. I smiled within myself.

“While the rest of you digest these rules, can I ask the gentleman at the back and the two lovely ladies next to him to step forward?” I announced. They looked alarmed at my request and hesitated, which made me to add “That wasn’t a request people, but an order”.

That did the trick. They slowly moved forward giving me a better view of the shorter lady. She sported a knee length skirt, lacey strapped white blouse, plunging neckline, a wavy hair and a nonchalant smile. She looked very intriguing and strangely familiar. I didn’t like that feeling. I never leave traces behind.

I couldn’t delay it further. I dismissed the rest of the crowd and waved at the girl to join me in my private room. She smiled as if she was waiting for the call. Little did she know that she was entering the perfect room for quarantine investigations. I smiled within myself.

“I don’t want your name or phone number or anything. Just show me you ID”

She looked puzzled and mystified. I expected it. “Show me your ID, When did you join here? Who hired you? Where do you stay?” I barked.

She seemed to have recovered from my sudden question now. “I didn’t bring my ID today. Will that be a problem?” she asked. She came closer and I saw more of her now.

“Not on my first day”, I told myself and buzzed the CEO. He was surprised to find her and me in the room.

“Shilpa? Mr. Norton! What is going on here?” He seemed to know her well. Maybe too well.

“Who is she?” I asked him.

“Shilpa is part of our PR Team. Did you find any issues Mr. Norton?”

“She is a serious threat to this organization. I have to kill her immediately. Can I proceed?”

The CEO didn’t look like he is listening to me.

“Yes or No? I need an answer now”, I shouted.

The CEO didn’t budge. He stood too shocked to speak.

I shouted again, “Damn it! Are you even listening? She is a SPY. I have to exterminate her and have to question everyone in your organization. Are you getting this? Yes or No?”

Shanthu woke up from his sleep and looked at the beeping monitor.

Norton Antivirus found a Spyware in your system. The Spyware has to be removed and a system restart has to be performed for additional housekeeping. Do you want to continue? Yes or No?

Valentine’s Day

A Day to Celebrate love?

A Marketing Gimmick?

Just another Tuesday?

I’m not going into the origins of Valentine’s day or discuss about went-against-the-societal-norms-in-those-days-St.Valentine or whether he even existed. February 14, one way or the other, has been earmarked as Valentine’s day – a day to celebrate love. One of my colleagues exclaimed, “Just because someone declared it as a day to celebrate love, I’m not celebrating it. In fact, I’m going to boycott this day by not even meeting her today”. His leaving of the office at 4 PM sharp is another story. A friend of mine went to the extremes by taking an oath before goddess Mahakali to have someone by his side to celebrate this day next year. Wonder if Mahakali is a good choice for this.

A friend’s status message last week says, “You search for something all your life and when you are so near to achieve it, you start panicking. You stop, You think, You ask yourself if the search is over. You ponder what happiness you will derive from it. And then you backtrack, shift the goal post and start your search all over again. Back to Square One”

I beg to differ to his opinion. Everyone search for happiness and satisfaction in their life. I believe that it’s this search which fuels our life and propels it forward. Like a magnet which orients itself towards the poles, our everyday activities are subconsciously synced towards things that make us happy. The path taken to achieve happiness often varies. Mother Teresa served people and found happiness in it. Karunanidhi will find his happiness when his sons rise up to the mast in DMK. Jayalalithaa seeks happiness in defaming Karunanidhi and in having his name erased from history. Some people find happiness in defaming successful cricketers and actors in Facebook. That’s how life goes on.

Valentine’s Day is yet another step in our never ending search for happiness.  I believe that it’s a day to celebrate our search for happiness through the path of love. Leave all the marketing gimmicks aside. Take your partners out to malls or multiplexes or restaurants proudly. Tell your partner that you are happy, you love them more and wish to celebrate Valentine’s day every year with them. Shakespeare quoted, “Journey end when lovers meet”. Proclaim to the world on this day that your journey has ended and that now you have an extra pair of hands, legs and a heart to help you in your search for happiness.

Though gifts are optional, giving even the smallest of gifts will earn you the biggest of smiles and the greatest of hugs.

This article is probably late for this year, but sure I hope it’ll inspire you for the next year. Let’s all celebrate love and happiness

Ponniyin Selvan

Ponniyin Selvan – A tamil epic novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. 

It is basically the story of RajaRajaChozhan and how he became the King. I personally feel it is a must read novel for everyone, since it glorifies the conquest of Chola kings and the rich and vast tamil culture at those times. Also, one can know how far we were advanced in military and espionages.

 

But this blog is not about the novel and the rich tamil culture or advances. This blog is about a dream film, I was expecting ever since i read Ponniyin Selvan in my first year of my college. Ponniyin Selvan is a novel of many characters with different personalities. No one’s character is white or black.. There is a grey shade in everyone’s character.  When Hollywood can make Lord of the rings, When Mollywood can make films like Pazhassi Raja, When Bollywood can make films like Jodhaa Akbar, we can surely make Ponniyin Selvan.  But I dont want this a modern version just like Raavan (I dont like this movie). I want the film just the way the novel is, set in ancient times. We dont get those kinda films in Kollywood now.

This movie apart from a great director, should have an excellent screenplay which cant be done by a single person and which should involve writers more than directors. We will miss Sujatha for sure because Sujatha has written epic novels. But authors like Balakumaran, directors like K Bhagyaraj(He is the best screenplay writer I can think of) can help. Dialogues should be written by of course Vaali and Vairamuthu. I dont want to assign music direction to only Ilaiyaraja. I wanted Ilaiyaraja, A R Rahman to work together to compose music for this film.  Direction can be done my ManiRatnam. Also skilled directors like Shankar, Selvaraagavan can work with him.  And the art direction is of course by Thotthatharani.

Lets come to the characters. The Chief character in the movie is Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, whom I think is a great person but he is not uno-supremo character, He has his own weaknesses(falls for Nandhini’s smile) and his own strength(Loyalty and friendship). Surya can play the role. Arulmozhivarman, everyone wanted him to be the King, he never wanted to be one, loves everyone, demands respect and I think hi’s character could be well played by Vikram. There is this AdityaKarikalan, heir to the throne, but suffering from his inner demon. Ajith played well as Susima in the film Asoka. I think he can do justice to this role. But a dubbing artist should be used for him. Then we have Kandamaaran, Parthibendra pallavan, Madhuranthakar, which can be played by Jeyam Ravi, Karthi, Prithviraj and some others(No, Not Dhanush and Simbu/STR). Still we have three more important male lead characters: 1) Sundara Cholan: The character should have an aura around him, should demand respect, should be handsome(as the name goes) and should portray the anguish, a king undergoes in choosing the heir to his throne and fighting the mistakes he had made in his young age. No person’s name comes to my mind, except KamalHaasan. 2) Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar: When Kalki describes his physique and character in this novel, your lips will be saying “Wow! what a man?!”. He is like Villain in the novel, but again he saves the day at the end. Somehow I think, Rajinikanth can do justice to this character. Villain roles are like tailor made roles for him and he had played it just like he flicks that cigarette. 3) Aazhvaarkadiyan: After reading the novel, you will end up respecting Aazhvaarkadiyan as he is the most loyal citizen to the kingdom and works with utmost courage and sincerity. The character’s physique is like Tharumi’s character in the film Thiruvilayaadhal. But this character should be strong, courageous. We will surely  miss our Tamil Cinema thespians at this moment because persons like Nagesh(Tharumi), Sivaji Ganesan(Naaradhar in Saraswathi Sabadam) can handle this character very easily. But again we dont have them, we can use some other ppl.

Now comes the female lead characters. Kundhavai: The most intelligent princess, Nothing happens in the kingdom without her knowledge. I feel really bad in saying that no actress in the current tamil cinema I can think of handling this character. When I read this novel, I had Simran in my mind. Then Nandhini, the most beautiful, seductive princess plotting against the whole Chola kingdom. She single handedly tries to destroy the kingdom and she almost succeeds in that. This character should be played by some one who is extremely beautiful, should be able to play femme fatale character at ease. (Pls dont think of Aishwarya.) Then comes Poonguzhali, Arrogant, Independent woman and then also we have Vaanadhi(loves RajaRajaChozhan) and Manimekalai(so charming, so innocent that she believes what others say). I really find it hard to pin point any of the current actresses to these characters, probably actresses in tamil cinema was never given an opportunity to play such strong characters. But actresses like Revathi, Suhasini, Rohini, Radha, Ambika could have played all these characters at ease. But again a good director can bring the best in actors. So we can cast Trisha, Shreya, Nayanthara and can try to bring the best out of them. Then we have SembianMaaDevi who seems so old and fragile but so intelligent that she plans everything ahead, also a silent mother who is unable to help her own child, can be aptly played by Lakshmi and Mandhagini Devi(her love for SundaraCholan and his children, her courage, her true spirit is truly admiring) can be played by “Am-sorry-I-don’t-know”.

Apart from all these characters we have Anirudha Brahmarayar, Sendhan Amudhan, Ravidhasan, Somban Sambhavan and many more characters which can be played by the  character artists we have. This movie can also involve actors like Mammotthy, Mohan Lal, Sarath Kumar, Sivakumar, Arjun. For example, Sivakumar can handle the character of Anirudha Brahmarayar, Chief Minister to the King. Arjun can play brother to Periya Paruvettaraiyar who serves his brother and stands by him and is a true warrior and sword-fighter. For some of the characters listed above, I think they can also perform well.

And to do justice to all characters in the novel, The film should be made in two parts.

This is my fantasy film and I sincerely hope such films are made in tamil cinema. Sun pictures can make such movies, since they can provide immense budget, marketing strategies(though those strategies are nerve-breaking). This film will surely be a path breaking one in Indian Cinema. Since it showcases a vast Tamil culture and our richness, all people shall leave their ego and come together to work for such films. Sincerely hoping for such a film in my life time.

Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan

Message in a Bottle

This is a post which i never planned on writing.  A spontaneous one.  I just finished reading a novel. I like reading novels because I go to my own world while reading it and sort of picturise the characters and make myself involved with the characters as if they are my friends and I want what they want in the novel. But this is the one novel that had me left sad, aching and I wanted to shout and pray to God not to let this happen to anyone in the world. The Novel is “Message in a Bottle” By Nicholas Sparks. My friend suggested me to read it because his friend suggested him and he is not interested in reading.

The novel’s summary is simple. A journalist finds a desperate message in a bottle washed up on a beach and she embarks on a journey to find the author of the letter.  I never was in love with anyone nor had crushes to understand a heart-break but Garrett seems to be touching my nerve every time he writes a letter. I wish he would have got all the happiness and love which he deserved at the end. But it didn’t happen to him. Not everyone’s love life ends in happily ever after. But after reading this novel, I just wish everyone’s to be great and end just like in “Mills & Boons”. And whoever already had a heart-break or lost a loved one, just keep in mind that “true love cannot be denied”.

Endhiran – Movie Review

எந்திரன்: கலாநிதி மாறன் தயாரிப்பில் ஷங்கர் இயக்கிய இத்திரைப்படத்தில் சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் ரஜினிகாந்த்,  ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய், டேன்னி டென்சாங்பா, சந்தானம், கருணாஸ் மற்றும் பலர் நடித்துள்ளனர். இசை: ஏ ஆர் ரகுமான். ஒளிப்பதிவு: ரத்னவேலு.

கதை சுருக்கம்: டாக்டர். வசீகரன் பத்து வருடம் முயன்று, இந்திய இராணுவத்திற்காக சிட்டி பாபு என்கின்ற Android ரோபோட் ஒன்றை கண்டுபிடிக்கின்றார். உணர்ச்சிகள் இல்லை என்றும் இதனால் நமக்கே ஆபத்து என்றும் AIRD குழு இதனை நிராகரிக்கின்றது. மனித உணர்வுகள் கொடுத்தபின் சிட்டியில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்களே மீதி கதை. முதல் பாதி விறுவிறு மற்றும் கலகல. இரண்டாம் பாதி அதிரடி.

ரஜினிகாந்த் கதாநாயகனாக அல்லாமல் கதையின் நாயகனாக வந்திருப்பது பாராட்டுக்குரியது. வசீகரனாகவும், சிட்டியாகவும் இரு வேறு வேடங்களில் அசத்தி இருக்கின்றார். தன்னுடைய வழக்கமான  mannerisms, style, punch dialogues எதுவும்  இன்றி  தன்  நடிப்பின்  புதிய  பரிமாணத்தை  வெளிகொணர்ந்துள்ளார். சிட்டியின்  நடை , Hand movementsல்  உணர்வுகள்  வரும்  முன்  மற்றும் வந்த  பின்பும்  மாற்றம்  காட்டி  நடித்துள்ளார். கிலிமாஞ்சாரோ, காதல்  அணுக்கள்  பாடல்களில்  இளம்  நடிகர்களுக்கு  சவால்  விடும்  வகையில்  இளமையுடன்  காட்சி  அளிக்கின்றார். Also Rajnikanth has proved once again that villainous role is a tailor made role for him.

ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய், பல இடங்களில் அழகாய் தெரிந்தாலும் சில இடங்களில் முதுமை தெரிகின்றது. சிட்டி, வசீகரனுக்கு இடையே நடக்கும் வாக்குவாதத்தின்போது சிறப்பாக நடித்துள்ளார்.

நகைச்சுவைக்கு அதிக முக்கியத்துவம் இல்லாததால் கருணாஸ், சந்தானம் இவர்களுக்கு அதிக வேலையில்லை. அந்த  குறையையும் சிட்டியே ஈடுசெய்து விடுகின்றார்.

ஷங்கருக்கு ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய hats off. இத்திரைப்படம்  தமிழ் சினிமாவை ஒருபடி மேலே உயர்த்தி செல்லும் என்றால் அது மிகையல்ல. ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய  technical teamக்கு தலைமை ஏற்று, சிறப்பாக செயல்பட்டதற்கு பாராட்டுக்கள். அமரர் சுஜாதாவின் வசனங்கள் பளிச்சிடுகின்றன.  “am chitti version 2 upgraded” எனும் போது தியேட்டரே அதிர்கின்றது .

இசை: ஏ ஆர் ரகுமான். வசீகரன் மற்றும் சிட்டியின் டூயட் பாடல்கள் அவர்களின் தன்மைக்கேற்றவாறு அமைத்திருப்பது பாராட்டுக்குரியது. படத்திற்கு பின்னணி இசை கூடுதல் பலம் சேர்க்கின்றது.

“காமுற்ற கணினி”, “சிலிகான் சிங்கம்”, “ஏவாள் தங்கை” என வைரமுத்து மீண்டும் தான் ஒரு கவிபேரரசர் என நிரூபித்து இருக்கின்றார். “இரும்பிலே ஒரு இதயம்” என்ற பாடலில் கார்கியின் வரிகளும் அருமை.

தீப்பிடிக்கும்  apartmentல் பெண் குளித்துக்கொண்டு இருப்பது, தீ விபத்தினால் தெருவே ஸ்தம்பித்து நிற்கும் நேரத்தில் வேகமாக செல்லும் லாரி, தான் பத்து வருடம் உழைத்து செய்த ரோபோவை dismantle செய்து labல் preserve செய்யாமல் குப்பை தொட்டியில் வீசுவது, கார் chasingஇன் போது ஐஸ்வர்யா மீது ஒரு துப்பாக்கி குண்டு கூட  துளைக்காதது  போன்ற சில காட்சிகள் நெருடினாலும், அடுத்தடுத்த காட்சிகள் அதனை மறக்கடிக்க செய்கின்றது.

ரதனவேலுவின்  ஒளிப்பதிவு  anthonyயின் editing, சாபு சிரிலின் கலை , பீட்டர் ஹைனின் stunts அனைத்தும் சிறப்பாக அமைந்துள்ளது.

பாடல்: நாதம் என் ஜீவனே..
படம்: காதல் ஓவியம்.

இந்த பாடலை, ஒவ்வொரு முறை கேட்கும்போதும் ஒவ்வொரு விதமான அனுபவம்.  மூன்று பேரை இந்த பாட்டிற்காக கண்டிப்பாக பாராட்ட வேண்டும். உன்னதமான  இசைக்காக இசைஞானி அவர்களையும், அருமையான வரிகளுக்காக வைரமுத்துவையும், அழகான renditionக்காக ஜானகி அவர்களையும்  பாராட்ட வேண்டும்.

சாதாரண கருத்தை படு சுவாரஸ்யமாகவும், மிகபெரிய விஷயங்களை எளிமையாக சொல்வதிலும் வைரமுத்துவுக்கு இணை அவர் மட்டுமே! நீயே  என் தெய்வம், பார்வையற்ற உனது கண்களே  கோவிலின் தீபம் என்பதை ஒரே  வரியில் “கண்களில் மௌனமோ, கோயில்தீபமே” என்று அழகாக சொல்லிருப்பார். மௌனமான விழிகள் என பார்வையற்றவரின் விழிகளை அழகாக சொல்லியது நானறிந்து வைரமுத்து மட்டுமே! சும்மாவா கவிபேரரசு என்று அழைக்கிறார்கள்.

பாப்பாவுக்கும் பாடுவார், பாட்டிக்கும் பாடுவார், கதாநாயகிக்கும் பாடுவார். அனைத்து வயதினர்க்கும் ஏற்ப பாடும் ஜானகி அவர்கள், இந்த பாடலில் அந்த பெண்ணின் உணர்ச்சிகளை அவ்வளவு அழகாக வெளிப்படுத்திருப்பார். “மார் மீது பூவாகி விழவா? விழியாகிவிடவா?” என்னும் வரிகளை கேட்கும் போதெல்லாம் எழுந்து நின்று கைதட்ட  வேண்டும்  என தோன்றும்.

இந்த உலகிலே கஷ்டமான வேலைகள், செய்யமுடியாத வேலைகள் என சில உண்டு. அவற்றில் இசைஞானி இசையமைத்த பாடல்களில் சிறந்ததை தேர்ந்தேடுப்படும் ஒன்றாகும். அசாத்திய திறமை கொண்ட இவருடைய பாடல்கள் மற்றும் அதன் BGM, சூழ்நிலைகளை மட்டுமன்றி, மனங்களின் ஏக்கங்களையும் துல்லியமாக வெளிப்படுத்தும். பல்லவி மற்றும் சரணத்தின் இடையே வரும் BGM சஞ்சலம் கொண்ட மனம் தெளிவானதைப் பிரதிபலிப்பதை போலவே எனக்கு தோன்றும். “அமுத கானம் நீ தரும் நேரம், நதிகள் ஜதிகள் பாடுமே!” என்ற வரி முடிந்தவுடன் வரும் வீணையின் இசை நதியின்  அலை போலவே ஒலிக்கும். “இசையை அருந்தும் சாதகப்பறவை போல நானும் வாழ்கிறேன்” – இதற்கு முன் வரும் புல்லாங்குழல் இசை வரிக்கேற்ப அமைந்து இருக்கும்.

சரணத்தின் முதல் வரி மற்றும் இரண்டாம் வரி முடிந்தவுடன் ஒரு மெல்லிய புல்லாங்குழல் இசை நம்மை சீண்டி விட்டு செல்லும். நாதம் என் ஜீவனே என்று ஒலிக்கும் போதெல்லாம் ஒரு இடத்தில் வயலினும் மற்றொரு  இடத்தில் புல்லாங்குழலும் , பின்னணியில் கேட்கும். பின்னி பெடலெடுப்பது, வீடு கட்டி ஆடுவது  போன்ற phrasesக்கு அர்த்தம் புரியாதவர்கள் இந்த பாட்டை ஒரு  முறை கேட்கவும். ராஜா  அத்தனையும் செய்திருப்பார்.

இதே படத்தில் இன்னும் அழகான பாடல்கள் உண்டு. கேட்க எண்ணும் நெஞ்சங்களுக்கு, படத்தின் பெயர்: காதல் ஓவியம்.
பாரதிராஜா இயக்கத்தில் 1982ல் வெளிவந்த திரைப்படம். சங்கராபரணம் திரைப்படத்தை இயக்கும் வாய்ப்பு பறிபோன கோவத்தில் தன்னாலும் ஒரு கர்நாடக  சங்கீதத்தை மையமாய் வைத்து திரைப்படத்தை இயக்க முடியும் என்பதை உணர்த்த பாரதிராஜா இயக்கிய திரைப்படம் என்று சொல்பவர்கள் உண்டு. உண்மை நானறியேன்.

Nee Oru Kadhal Sangeetham

I was alone in my room since my roommate is out of town. It was a sunday night and I didnt know what to do, I was not getting any sleep. I looked for any novels in my room and found BREAKING DAWN. The thought of reading the novel for the third time came across my mind, but it was late night and I desperately wanted to sleep. So what do u need, when u wanted a good sleep? Of course, Ilaiyaraja! A dose of Ilaiyaraja is what i needed now, I said to myself. Turned on my laptop and was searching through songs and I found “Nee oru Kadhal Sangeetham”. from the movie “Nayagan”.

Raja’s chemistry with certain directors like Fazil, Maniratnam always clicked well and the songs were always pleasant, soothing, mesmerizing and intoxicating. Also Maniratnam always gets the best out of everyone. Some combination and some chemistry was done and the resulting output was a evergreen song that kindles lots of emotions in you.

This song is an example of the genius at work. Shot very aesthetically, the song had very well written lyrics sung very effectively by Mano and Chithra. The veena interlude at the beginning of the song is simply magic.  My favourite scene in this song is  when Kamal and Saranya will be sitting inside the house and all of a sudden, it will start raining and the roof will be leaking and that is when the pigeons come inside the house for shelther. I dont know why but I like this particular scene in the song. The interludes at this scene is one of the best. The last three lines of this song is perfect ending to one’s narration of his love-life.

மணல்வெளி யாவும்  இருவரின்  பாதம்,

It just makes you to yearn for the person with whom you wish to walk in the beach with the water from the sea washing your feet in a never-ending evening.
